Cube Sprites are the newest special variant in Fortnite's Sprite system, released on July 23, 2026 alongside themes like Gold, Gummy, Galaxy and Holofoil. Like every variant, Cube Sprites keep the base ability of whatever Sprite they are attached to, then layer a unique look and an extra collection bonus on top. The Cube bonus is one of the most tactical in the game: it grants you the Overdrive effect while you are inside the Storm, which means faster movement exactly when most players are at their slowest and most vulnerable.
That storm-surfing bonus changes how late-game rotations feel. With Cube Sprites in your collection you can cut through the storm to flank teams camped on the edge, escape a bad circle without burning every heal, or take storm-side angles that other squads simply cannot afford. If you like aggressive end-game play, this variant is more than a cosmetic — it is a genuine gameplay tool. A fun bit of history: Cube is the official name of the tier that leaked earlier in the season as "Rift", with the same shimmering purple art.
How to Get Cube Sprites in Fortnite
Cube Sprites drop from the same activities as the rest of the collection: open chests and Sprite Chests, work through Sprite-related activities, and extract successfully so your finds are locked in. Official Cube drop rates are now published for nearly the whole set: Earth, Fire, and Fishy sit at 0.21%, Dream, Punk, and Boss at 0.04%, Batman at 0.02%, and Zero Point at a vanishing 0.000014% — only Grim Reaper's Cube remains unlisted.
The practical route is to farm the base Sprite's spawn locations and let the variant roll happen. Earth Cube hunters should work forests and wooded areas, Fire spawns around city POIs, Fishy favours chests in high and mountainous zones, Dream and Punk are rarer chest spawns, Boss comes from boss drops, Grim Reaper rolls from chests across the map, Batman appears in Sprite Chests during the Hot Bat Summer crossover, and Zero Point — the newest Cube, live since July 30 — hides in Vault and keycard Sprite Chests. Extraction is everything: an unextracted Cube Sprite does not count toward your collection.
The Full List of Cube Sprites
Nine Sprites currently have a released Cube variant, spanning every rarity band. The Rare tier covers Earth (bonus chest loot), Fire (fiery burst) and Fishy (swim speed and under-fire movement) — all three now with a published 0.21% rate. The Legendary tier covers Dream (a random item each level), Punk (infinite ammo effects) and Boss (bigger health and shield pool). At the top, three Mythics carry the theme: Grim Reaper (marks players who damage you), Batman, the Hot Bat Summer crossover Sprite, and Zero Point (on-heal Shield Bubble Jr.), which joined with v41.30 on July 30, 2026.
That keeps Cube among the largest special tiers in the collection, behind only Gold, Gummy and Galaxy's full coverage and Holofoil's eleven. Cube Grim Reaper, Cube Batman, and Cube Zero Point are the prestige pulls: Mythic base Sprites with an unpublished special-variant roll on top. If you see one in a match, treat it like a jackpot and get it extracted.
Are Cube Sprites Worth Chasing and the Best Cube Sprites
For completionists the answer is automatic — Cube releases pushed the collection from 83 to 91 variants on July 23 and helped carry it to today's 109 live variants, and you cannot hit 100% without all nine Cubes. For everyone else, the Overdrive-in-Storm bonus is a genuinely useful perk that stacks with the rest of your collection bonuses, and it gets better the deeper into the season you play, when storm damage and circle speed punish slow rotations hardest.
The best Cube Sprites to chase first are the three Rares — Earth, Fire and Fishy — because their base Sprites spawn most generously, giving you more variant rolls per session. Cube Dream and Cube Punk are the value picks in the Legendary band since both base abilities (free items and infinite ammo) are strong on their own. Cube Grim Reaper, Cube Batman, and Cube Zero Point are the trophy hunts: plan for them to take the longest, and remember Batman's availability is tied to the crossover window.
Tips for Collecting Cube Sprites
First, play the spawn map, not the lottery. Each Cube Sprite can only roll where its base Sprite spawns, so route your drops through forests for Earth, cities for Fire, mountains for Fishy, and save vault-adjacent or boss fights for the top rarities. Open every Sprite Chest you pass — special variants are exactly what they are for — and keep an eye on Sprite events like Shiny Hours, which boost special-variant spawn rates for a weekend window.
Second, prioritise survival and extraction over flashy plays once you are holding a rare find. An unextracted Sprite does not count, so keep your loadout efficient, avoid unnecessary fights, and bank your progress. Track your Cube Sprites collection on our Sprite Checklist so you always know which of the nine you still need, and use the storm bonus you have already earned to make those last extractions safer.
Frequently asked questions
When did Cube Sprites release in Fortnite?
Cube Sprites went live on July 23, 2026 at 9 AM ET for eight Sprites: Earth, Fire, Fishy, Dream, Punk, Boss, Grim Reaper and Batman — and Zero Point made it nine on July 30. Nearly every Cube rate is now published — from Earth/Fire/Fishy at 0.21% down to Zero Point at 0.000014%; only Grim Reaper's is unlisted.
What do Cube Sprites do?
Every Cube Sprite grants the Overdrive effect while you are inside the Storm, on top of the base Sprite's normal ability. That makes storm rotations faster and opens up storm-side flanks and escapes in the late game.
Are Cube Sprites the same as Rift Sprites?
Yes — Cube is the official name of the tier previously leaked as "Rift", with the same art. The leak only covered Dream and Punk; the live releases have expanded it to nine Sprites so far, and more Cube variants exist in the files for future drops.
